FIRST DRIVE: Porsche 914 Restomod – £350k, 400bhp, Manual Gearbox!
This is a 914 as you’ve never seen it before, as Porsche and VW’s original entry-level model has had a very-not-entry-level upgrade. The huge overhaul comes courtesy of Fifteen Eleven Design, an offshoot of Mellors Elliot Motorsport, a UK motorsport firm better known for prepping and building top-level rally cars. Underpowered and not enormously successful in its day, this 914 has been treated to a host of more modern Porsche mechanical bits, including a flat-six engine that puts out around 400bhp. Add in a bespoke carbonfibre body, and performance is somewhat of a step on from the original! This model was developed by Ford Australia with contributions from Ford's subsidiaries in Asia, America, Africa, and Europe. The P703 Ranger features an upgraded chassis, a wheelbase extended by 50 mm (2.0 in), and wider tracks, along with an all-new suspension positioned further outboard. This design enhances spring/damper articulation, improving ride quality, handling, and off-road capability. The engine bay was restructured with a hydroformed structure to accommodate a 3.0-litre Power Stroke turbodiesel V6 engine. The vehicle also has a wider bed, large enough to fit a 1.2 m x 0.8 m pallet. This model shares its platform with the third-generation Ford Everest and the second-generation Volkswagen Amarok as part of the Ford-VW global alliance. The second-generation Ranger Raptor is equipped with a 3.0-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 petrol engine from the Bronco Raptor, paired with a 10R60 automatic transmission. The engine delivers 392 hp (292 kW; 397 PS) in the Australian market, while the European version produces 282 hp (210 kW; 286 PS) to meet EU emissions standards. In North America, the Raptor delivers 405 hp (302 kW; 411 PS). Ford has also unveiled the North American version of the P703 Ranger, which was engineered for the American market from the outset. While visually similar to its global counterpart, the North American model has slight changes, such as the relocation of the third brake light to the top of the cab and the addition of amber side markers. Trims include the base XL, mid-level XLT, luxury-oriented Lariat, and a new Raptor model, which features the 3.0-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine shared with the Explorer ST and Bronco Raptor. The 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine from the previous generation remains the base engine for North America, with a 2.7-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 offered as an option on the XLT and Lariat trims, producing 315 hp (235 kW; 319 PS). All engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Initially, only a SuperCrew model with a 5 ft (1.5 m) bed will be available, with a SuperCab version expected to follow. The Specs for the North American Ford Ranger include a range of engine options, such as the 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder and the 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6, both paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Assembly for the North American market continues at the Michigan Assembly Plant. It’s called the Type 00 Concept, and it’s meant to preview a four door coupe that’s due to be unveiled in late 2025. However, it’s totally different to anything Jaguar has ever unveiled before. For starters, it’s super minimalistic on both the interior and exterior. There’s an absolutely huge grille design at the front (not that it will be used to cool the engine, given that this will be an EV!), and around the back, the taillights are hidden inside some horizontal line design elements. What’s more, there’s not even a back window! The minimalism continues on the inside, with every surface being white, smooth and simple. Bar a long brass spine that runs through the whole cabin, that’s pretty much it! But why has Jaguar taken this direction? Well, recently Jaguar hasn’t been innovating. It was workin non a replacement for the XJ in 2019, but then it was all scrapped at the last minute! Since then, sales have been falling, fast! Only 64,000 cars were sold in 2023. In comparison, Porsche sold 320,000 cars in the same period, while BMW sold a colossal 2.2 million cars! But will the gamble pay off? Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Porsche’s New 6-STROKE Engine Just Saved Internal Combustion!

From Porsche to Toyota and even Ferrari, several manufacturers have been exploring new ways to ensure that the internal combustion engine doesn’t cease to exist as more regulations are brought in over the next few years. But what sort of technology have they been working on? Well, one of the most exciting innovations comes from Porsche, with patents for an all-new 6-stroke petrol engine having been uncovered! There’s a whole load of technical detail included with the patents, but this all-new design looks like it will help to radically boost power thanks to there being two power strokes in every three revolutions. With this in mind, not only is power increased, but it means that emissions will also decrease at the same time. But that’s not all, both Ferrari and Toyota have unveiled patents and teased tech that makes use of hydrogen fuel. For example, patents reveal that Ferrari is undertaking work on a supercar that would Include a hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine! Clearly, development of this is in the very early stages at the moment, but there are great benefits to be had with hydrogen fuel, mainly being the fact that no carbon dioxide is expelled from the car at all, so it’s an actual game-changer when it comes to reducing emissions!
