Why Porsche’s once-unbreakable business model is suddenly falling apart - Volkswagen

Porsche spent decades building one of the most profitable and respected names in the automotive industry, but its financial formula is suddenly under extraordinary pressure. According to the transcript, operating profit plunged from €4.04 billion to roughly €40 million in the first nine months of 2025-a staggering 99% collapse. Slowing demand in important markets and a more expensive and complicated transition to electric vehicles have forced CEO Oliver Blume to acknowledge that Porsche’s existing business model no longer works in its current form. The crisis now raises a much bigger question: if even Porsche can struggle this badly, what does it mean for Volkswagen, luxury cars, and the industry’s expensive push toward electrification?

Why some Canadians are losing patience with plug-in hybrids

Plug-in hybrid registrations in Canada fell in 2025, while conventional hybrids grew, a notable change in segment totals. The video explains how plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) perform in Canadian winters and why electric-only range often shrinks. It outlines factors affecting PHEV range, home charging access, and public charging speeds. Cold temperatures, cabin heating, battery behavior, winter tires, and road conditions can reduce electric range and prompt engine starts. Engines may also activate in EV mode for heating, defrosting, system protection, or added power. Regular charging is central to savings, yet renters and apartment or condo residents may face limited access. Many models rely on slower charging and may not use fast chargers, affecting public convenience compared with gasoline refueling or fully electric vehicles.

How global rallycross supercars hit 60 mph in 1.9 seconds

Regulations limit them to 2 liter engines and 45 millimeter turbocharger restrictor plates, which ultimately are the two factors limiting power. The engines produce about 600 horsepower, and over 650 lb-ft of torque, rocketing these machines from 0-60 in as fast as 1.9 seconds. 1.9 seconds! If we do the math, 60 mph is equivalent to 88 ft per second. 88/1.9 = 46.3 ft/sec squared, or if we divided by 32.2, it means the cars accelerate at over 1.4 longitudinal g’s!! That’s faster than any production vehicle, regardless of how much it costs. So how do they achieve such mind blowing acceleration? First and foremost, you’ll need all wheel drive and an absurd power to weight ratio. With a minimum weight of 2921 pounds including the driver and all fluids, the vehicles are carrying less than 5 pounds of weight for every horsepower the engine produces. All wheel drive is obviously critical for maximizing acceleration, but it’s also important that the engine torque finds its way to the wheels with the most traction. To do this, plate and ramp style mechanical limited slip differentials are used front and back. A shallow ramp angle in an LSD will lock up more easily under throttle. With the differential locked up, torque goes wherever it finds grip. A steep ramp angle will provide little lock-up, or if it’s as steep as 90 degrees, no lockup.

My wife says our teenager should get a brand-new SUV because older cars are unsafe. Is buying a cheap first car irresponsible now?

It starts innocently enough. One parent says a cheap used car is fine for a teenager, and the other says the kid needs a brand-new SUV because the roads are too dangerous now. The hard truth is that both sides are usually reacting to something real, but the data shows this is not as simple as old equals unsafe and new equals safe.

Can a custom test rig save this Bugatti gearbox?

Mark McCann’s team faces the challenge of safely testing a rebuilt Bugatti gearbox before reinstalling it. Former Ricardo engineers help design a custom spin rig instead of using a far more expensive full test system. The team 3D-scans the car to create mounting parts and rebuilds the transmission wiring and control setup. Early bench testing reveals damaged pump wiring and a stuck pressure relief valve causing excessive pressure. After repairs, the gearbox is mounted to the rig with an inline filter to catch clutch debris. Initial running exposes an oil leak caused by a missing internal O-ring. Once fixed, the transmission is gradually tested at higher speeds and through all seven forward gears. The rig eventually reaches 6,500 RPM, simulating speeds above 180 mph. A small input shaft seal leak appears but improves after repeated heat cycles. Reverse gear then engages successfully for the first time in four years, giving the team confidence to reinstall the gearbox.

Why some Canadians are buying cars from other provinces

A vehicle search that once ended at the provincial border now often stretches across the country. Canadians are comparing listings in neighbouring provinces—and sometimes thousands of kilometres away—because local supply, pricing, condition, and equipment can vary sharply. The appeal is not simply finding a cheaper sticker. A distant vehicle may offer the exact trim, a cleaner underbody, stronger maintenance records, or a body style that has become scarce nearby. These 12 reasons explain why cross-provincial car buying is becoming a practical option for some households, tradespeople, collectors, and electric-vehicle shoppers. They also show why the apparent bargain must be measured against taxes, inspections, transport, registration, insurance, and the protections available when a purchase crosses jurisdictions.

Ford recalls more than 20,000 vehicles in Canada as camera problems trigger new safety actions

Ford announced recalls affecting more than 20,000 vehicles in Canada, citing safety concerns with rear-view visibility and exterior trim that could pose hazards. Ford plans an APIM software update, with VIN checks determining eligibility and dealer repairs provided at no cost. More than 134,000 U.S. vehicles are also affected. The company has faced prior camera recalls and a $165 million U.S. penalty, drawing added scrutiny.

Polestar 5 shows the future of electric luxury GTs

The Polestar 5 is Polestar’s future flagship electric GT, built to show the brand’s best ideas in design, performance, comfort, and sustainability. At more than 5 meters long and nearly 2 meters wide, it enters the luxury grand touring space against cars like the Porsche Taycan, Porsche Panamera, Audi E Tron GT, Mercedes EQS, and Zeekr 001. The design is low, sleek, and aggressive, with a sharply dropping bonnet, huge 22 inch wheels, orange Brembo brakes, and no rear window, using a digital camera mirror instead. The Performance version brings a large 112 kWh battery and up to 650 kW of power, making it a serious high performance EV. Inside, the low driving position, Recaro seats, tall center console, vertical touchscreen, Bowers And Wilkins audio, and massive panoramic roof create a cocoon like luxury feel. Rear passengers get clever foot space, massage, heating, and cooling, although headroom is limited for very tall adults. The main concern is heavy use of piano black trim.
